Below are some of the most common questions we get asked about our copywriting services. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, let us know by email (email@write-upcommunications.co.uk) or call us : 07988313055.
Who do you write for?
Anyone who needs their content to ‘work’ better for them. We work across sectors, but our clients are mostly in the technology, training and development, healthcare/pharmaceutical and retail areas.
What copywriting services do you provide?
We offer a very wide range of copywriting services, whether you require content for print, digital or web:
Corporate training manuals
Annual report copywriting
Animation scripts
Newsletters
Ebook content
Tone of voice guidelines
Sales pages
Product descriptions
Promotional brochure copywriting
Print advertising
Website content
Website copy critique
Case studies
Blog posts
Press release writing
Leaflet copywriting
Do you have a writing philosophy?
Yes: good writing should be straightforward, but this doesn’t mean it should be simple. Our priority is to create copy that will engage and persuade your target audience. For this reason, we don’t come with any particular style of writing – there’s a joke that copywriting is the only socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.
Why should I hire a copywriter?
If your content isn’t ‘getting the job done’, then the chances are you need someone with the experience and judgment to turn things around for you.
Copywriting isn’t the same as putting one word in front of another. Copywriting is writing with a job to do – that job is to create copy that engages and persuades a specific audience. It’s also copy that needs to achieve a specific goal.
What is your process for onboarding new clients?
First, we would be thrilled to work with you. If you have decided that we are the right writers for you, give us a call on 0798831305 or email us: email@write-upcommunications.co.uk – you can also fill out the form on the Contact page.
Once we’ve had a chance to get some information about your project, we’ll send you a quote within 24 hours. Depending on the complexity of the project, we might be able to give you a ball-park figure of what your writing project will cost you. We require 50% payment before any work begins, and the balance on completion of the project.
If you are happy with the quote, we’ll then need to find out more about your business and objectives. We’ve written copy for quite a few sectors, so there’s a good chance we’ll have written about your market sector or interest area; this means we can be up and running pretty quickly. This stage of the process can be done via a combination of our briefing questionnaire and, if necessary, on Zoom.
What is your availability?
We usually have about two or three copywriting or copyediting projects in progress at any one time. If we are unable to take on your project, we will let you know our earliest availability. We also have access to a network of high calibre writers that we would be happy to recommend to you. Give us a call if you have a project you would like to discuss: 07988313055.
What information do you need from your clients?
Getting the right information is critical to creating effective copy. There’s no such thing as too much research material! During the briefing period, we will discuss questions such as who, what, why, when and how. Other standard information we ask for include background information about your business, information about your product or service, and examples of your previous promotional copy.
If possible, please give us information regarding your tone of voice, style of writing, mandatory inclusions and topics to be avoided.
We’ll give you a comprehensive briefing document with the important questions that we’ll ask you or your team to answer.
What’s your approach to confidentiality?
The nature of our work means that we are constantly exposed to confidential information. We take confidentiality super seriously and are happy to sign non-disclosure agreements.
Who owns the copyright to the work you do for your clients?
Our clients own the copyright to all completed work we do for them. Once the work is finished and we have received payment in full, all rights to the copy we write for our clients belong to our clients.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Once we agree the scope of your project, we’ll provide you with a quote. As long as the scope of your original brief to us does not alter a great deal, then the agreed cost includes two revisions. If, however, there are significant changes, then we can look at the impact of this in terms of our time and, therefore, cost.
If you would like to cancel a commission after work has begun on it, then we will charge a cancellation fee of 50%.
What are your terms of business?
For a full copy of our Terms, please email us: email@write-upcommunications.co.uk
How long will it take to create the copy?
We will discuss timelines with you from the outset. How long it takes to create your copy will depend on a range of factors, not least the size and complexity of your project. Other factors include the availability of stakeholders and how quickly you can supply information to us.
Can you work at our business premises?
We do all our work remotely, however we are happy to attend meetings at your premises, if required, provided you are based no more than one hour from London.
We find that we can work effectively using technology such as Zoom.
What do your fees include?
Copywriting projects range in price from a few hundred to several thousand pounds. Fees include up to three interviews, research, drafting and two rounds of revisions.
Please note that we do not price by the hour but we do charge a fixed fee per project. Write to us at email @write-upcommunications.co.uk to discuss your project and what you’d like to achieve. (Or call us: 07988313055.)
We’re not the cheapest and don’t try to be. Price-wise, we’re probably somewhere in the mid-range for UK copywriters based outside London. As we work from home, you can rest assured that you won’t be subsidising luxury retail premises or a top-of-the-range car.
Can we try you for free?
We are very happy to send you examples of our work so that you can evaluate them in your own time. Just as most professionals do not provide free samples, we do not work for free.
How can we be certain that you are the right copywriter for us?
A simple answer is this: use your head and your heart. Whichever copywriting company you choose, there are important questions to ask that will help you come to a decision:
- What’s their experience of your sector?
- What’s their experience of the type of copy you’re after?
- Are they qualified copywriters? If so, from where did they gain their qualifications? There’s a low bar to entry for services such as copywriting, branding, marketing etc so it’s important to look for qualifications.
- Do they seem to understand your company and your target audience?
- Are they good listeners, or do they just talk over you?
- Have you seen examples of their work?
- What’s your instinct about them?
- Could you work with them?
I have a small budget but my copy needs improvement. Can you still help?
We have a minimum charge for our projects. However, if you have already drafted your content, then we would recommend taking advantage of our website content critique service. For more information about this service, call us: 07988313055.
Are there any areas you don’t cover?
